Using multi-factor authentication blocks 99.9% of account hacks, according to Microsoft

According to Microsoft, enabling multi-factor authentication (MFA) on user's accounts blocks 99.9% of automated attacks. MFA should be enabled not only on Microsoft accounts but also on any other profile on any other website or online service that has MFA as an option. While there are many different ways to use and implement MFA Microsoft encourages users to use whatever version is available for the site and service being used whether it's a simple SMS-based one-time password or a more advanced biometric solution.

With over 300 million fraudulent sign-in attempts to their cloud services every day, Microsoft knows a thing or two about account breaches and cyber crime. Unfortunately, cyber criminals have a wide range of tools and options available to attempt to hack into accounts. Long gone are the days of having strong password policies and successfully protecting your accounts. Enabling MFA adds an additional step to the sign-in process and greatly decreases your chances of having the wrong actor get access to your accounts.
